Hi there,
Several years ago I bought the two dvd sets of the first 10 films in the series.
I wondered why no additional sets were released.
I read somewhere on the web a couple of years back, I can not remember where), that the rights to these 28 films returned to King Features or Hearst or something. So Columbia no longer has the rights to these films.
I remember seeing a few of them as a kid on summer holidays in the states.
I later saw a film called "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz" in a revival art house I was taken too as a kid. I do not remember the film at all, but I do remember a clip in the film showed the original Columbia "Blondie" titles.
These were not the King Feature tv versions. I would vote 100% to have the original title credits and end credits restored.
I also read in that long ago article that the original films did not have that extra padding (scenes) at the beginning of the follow up features. These were added to round up the films to a longer length at approximately 70 minutes.
If and when these films could be restored to their original condition of release and then sold as a package or sets would be great.
However, I feel that they would not sell too many copies :-(
Maybe they should show restored versions on some cable station in the states and then release box sets?
I get the feeling this is what happened with the wonderfull Charlie Chan films.
(i wish i had the later sets beginning 1942 or so, but i do not as yet...PC or not...)
Bryan
