Great Line

(Into the phone): "Mac? Rocky... No, I ain't down the morgue, it's one of your own boys. Listen."

Delivered so casually.

reply

Musta missed that one! Yeah, I love how casual all them gangsters talk when they mention a killing or a death, like it's nothin' at all.

"I dunno whoever said the flesh was weak; I find it very strong!"

When the cops search his apartment.
COP: "Speed it up Rocky, you're not so funny."
ROCKY: "It's killing me."

What a superb film. I might go watch it now.

I think the best line in the movie, and maybe the best ive ever heard in a movie, "lets go say a prayer for a boy who couldnt run as fast as me"

reply

My favourite.....

You're a smart guy....very smart.....but don't get smart with me

I have to go with:

Chunk your chest up to the wood!

The first time I heard it I nearly snorted my drink through my nose!

Rocky: Got any glad rags? Something fancy, an evening gown?
Laury: A very old one.

Rocky: Well come on get it on, we'll go out and do some celebratin'
Laury: What are we celebrating rocky?

Rocky: All this. You don't get on the front pages everyday.
Laury: You don't get away from the cops everyday rocky.

Rocky: You do if you're smart. See those white lights up there? Huh? That's where you belong and thats where you're goin'. Come on I'll show you what this town's made for.

I agree the "lets go say a prayer for a boy who couldnt run as fast as me." was great. It made me get a little moist around the eyes. I saw the movie a long time ago and those lines have always stayed with me.

reply

my favorite is this

copafter rocky throws his gun at him "the guns empty"

rocky-"yeah just like your thick skull copper"

reply

I'm gonna have to go with, "You're a smart guy. Very smart, but don't get smart with me." Because it shows how ruthless and a gangster he really is.

reply

I think the actual line was "You're a smart lawyer...Real smart. Only don't get smart with me". Great line

reply

My favorite is Leo Gorcey snapping his fingers 3 times after saying "All gamblers die broke."

reply

"Say your prayers, Mugs!"

"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."

reply

Rocky to Laury - I'm surprised some smart guy didn't scoop you up.
Laury to Rocky - Some smart guy, like you?
Rocky - You would do woise.

Soapy: Hey! Call a fair game or I'll slap you right in the kisser!
Rocky Sullivan: You'll slap me? You slap me in a dream, you better wake up and apologize.

Soapy: Hey! Call a fair game or I'll slap you right in the kisser!
Rocky Sullivan: You'll slap me? You slap me in a dream, you better wake up and apologize.

For real what version of the film do you have? I have seen this movie 100s of times and this line is not in there anywhere. I do however recall Harvey Keitel saying something like 'You slap me in a dream you better wake up and apologize' in the movie Reservoir Dogs.

reply

it should be on all versions of Angels with Dirty faces, but its said rather offhandedly in the midst of a bunch of noise. If I'm not mistaken this should be when Rocky is on the court with the boys, right before they start playing a clean game, and then it cuts to them washing their hands. I'll have to check to be sure precisely where it is, but this sounds right. You'll have to listen very closely though.

it taped it off tv and watched the dvd as well and i could not find that line any where.

RIP River Phoenix, Brad Renfro, Heath Ledger

reply

I just watched the basketball scene a half dozen times. It's not there.

edit: hey! only a year and a half later!

reply

I don't recall such a line either. Besides, would Soapy really say something like that to Rocky Sullivan knowing who he was and idolizing him at that point in the film?
