Pepe le pew

Do you think Charles Boyer new he was the inspiration for Pepe la pew?

Glad someone else noticed! I've been convinced of that since first time I saw the film. Inspiration both in the name and the various pet sayings (e.g. "come veess me to zee Cas-bah..."), combined with the popular American stereotype - perhaps based in truth at the time (hey, there's gotta be a reason the perfume industry is historically so big in France, non?) of the French national aversion to bathing, plus the trope of zee Franshmen being zee world's greatest louvers, or something.

I find it a quite hilarious connection, which in no way detracts from my enjoyment of the movie.

Cheers,
