Influence onStar Wars

I saw this movie for teh first time in the mid 90s and couldn't help noticing the ressemblance with Star Wars - better said, the ressemblance of Star Wars with AN -. Specially as far as the teutonic army is concerned, its appearance reminds so much of the Imperial Storm troops in SW. The Emperor himself seems to be drawn directly from one of the monks/bishops, who plays the organo. Remember also the text at the beginning that sums up the previous events - well, ok, this is common to many other movies, but it adds up -. The basic storyline is also very similar: the forces of evil threatening to conquer and destroy innocent people/countries and a saviour with a mystic force who comes to stop them. Just a thought.

Definitely some resemblance to Star Wars (or vice versa, one should say).

You're referring to the organ player, but I thought the Archbishop resembled the Emperor from SW in a most uncanny way. Watch the first sequence with the Teutonic Knights. The way the Grand Master stands next to the Archbishop is just Like Darth Vader standing next to the Emperor.

Absolutely right. The resemblance is scarily uncanny to me.

The setup is a little different though. Nevsky is more like Obi Wan than Luke, as he has a history of previous victories/battles (the Clone Wars), and has presently retreated to a simple life of a fisherman (Obi Wan is a hermit).

Called upon by his countrymen, Nevsky is no rebel, but rather a patriot or nationalist - Obi Wan/Luke are both rebels/anti-imperialists. If the Germans represent the Empire, then Europe, or Russia at least is the galaxy! Is the ice battle a parallel to the Hoth battle?

It's all bullcrap if you look too deeply I guess...

Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.
