Aleksandr Nevskiy and Conan

The helmets of the two main Teutonic knights, after the Grand Master, are copied in Conan. Thulsa Doom's two men, Rexor and Thorgrim wear them.

Also the song in Conan the Barbarian when Thulsa Doom, Rexor and Thorgrim plunder Conan's home village is a remake (a truly excellent remake btw) of the song "Battle on Ice" from this movie. There are a few more references to this movie in Conan the Barbarian but I forgot most.

Wow that is bizarre... An American film starring an Austrian referencing a Russian film dealing with German oppression. Awesome.

In the theatrical trailer for Conan the Barbarian, parts of Prokofiev's score is used. I think the score is called "Crusaders in Pskov". Also, one of Thulsa Doom's quotes is almost identical to one from Alexander Nevsky. The Nevsky one is: "The Strength of a sword is measured by the arm that wields it!" and in Conan it goes like this: "What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?"

Another similarty worth noticing is when we have close-ups of Conan cleaving down foes with his massive axe, at the Battle of the Mounds that is. It seems like a visual homage to me, just swap Conan with Vasili and remove the blood and voilĂ !

The trailer I mentioned can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vte9sadDdYw&feature=related
