Waikiki Wedding on TV.

When was Waikiki Wedding last seen on TV? I read it has not been seen in a long time. Was it ever on network TV or was it only on local stations? Back in the 50s it seemed you saw a lot more movies in TV during the day and late at night before sign off.

It depends on what state you're from. Back in the day, movies dominated the airwaves before trash talk shows and paid programming did. Back in the day, movies were the form of entertainment, other than variety shows such as Ed Sullivan or Flip Wilson of latter years.

Being originated from New York City, WAIKIKI WEDDING began its television broadcast on WCBS, Channel 2 (remember the syncopation clock opening before the moviee began on the late show?) around 1960. By the early 1970s, it moved to WNEW, Channel 5, where it played sporatically either on afternoon or late night movies until 1979. Around 1983, it moved over to public television, WNJM, Channel 50, where it broadcast from New Jersey but viewers were able to watch in the New York City area. It finished its run on that channel around 1987. Since then it hasn't been around since. I've never seen WAIKIKI WEDDING on American Movie Classics, where many old Paramount titles played. Maybe someday it may show up on Turner Classic Movies. For now, it's nearly forgotten Crosby musical. It's been available on video cassette but now you can acquire a DVD copy where it's double featured along with another not-so-well known Crosby musical, DOUBLE OR NOTHING (1937). You can acquire it either on Movies Unlimited or rent it from Netflix. Good luck.
