Lying tic

Has anyone else seen this movie? Did you notice that Carole Lombard had a tick of sticking her tongue in her cheek when she was about to lie? Seems like a risque move for the times....just a comment.

reply

It was a deliberate bit to signal to the audience she was about to start lying.

reply

yeah, but it was a lil scandalous for what that "signals" nowadays.

reply

What does that "tic" signal, that is so scandalous nowadays?

"OOO...I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"

reply

People do that tongue in cheek thing when they want to mime oral sex. Oftentimes a tight fist accompanies it.

reply

Back in the 1930's if you told someone you were at a 'gay party' last night, it meant something completely different than it does today.

I loved this movie, but I'm watching it on demand at TCM on television & at least 6 scenes so far have frozen & pick up with new dialog.

It's not the topic but most recent post I can find.

I like how Carole does that trick with her mouth, you know it's a lie.

reply

I am sure that tic was not considered sexual at the time.

reply

It was signal that she was going to lie. People make everything about sex now.
Thank you.
