Constance Bennett

She's stunning in this! Any other films where she's equally easy-on-the-eyes?

I hope TCM plays it and I see it.
She was a pleasure to watch.

This was the first movie I ever saw her in and fell in love with her on sight. One of the great screen beauties of all-time - even prettier than her gorgeous sister Joan Bennett. Fine actress, too.

No blah, blah, blah!

There is a gap of several years between the previous post and my reply so I hope you'll see this.

I am an old movie buff, and I have 2 other films starring Constance Bennett: "Merrily We Live" (1938) and "Smart Woman" (1948). Apparently, she wrote and/or directed this film and specifically asked for Brian Aherne, her co-star in "Merrily We Live" to co-star once again in this.

She's beautiful in these 2 films as well.

Actually I am more familiar with Joan Bennett, in such films as Scarlett Street and Father of the Bride, two very different but both excellent performances. Both sisters were beautiful, but beyond that it is difficult to compare them. Joan's career took a very different turn as it entered its middle period when she dyed her hair dark and began playing the femme fatale.

But I intend to see more Constance Bennett if I can. She's perhaps not up to the standard of Carole Lombard in playing comedy, but Ms. Lombard was after all an extraordinary actress. Still this was an excellent performance for Ms. Bennett, and she was gorgeous on top of that. Very sexy.

She was a great beauty, so she's equally gorgeous in all of her movies. However, there's a stiffness to some of her early movies (which is more about the emerging medium than the actress, because even early Cukor, La Cava, and Capra movies are a bit stiff/static). That said, I'd recommend:

* Sin Takes a Holiday
* The Easiest Way
* What Price Hollywood
* Our Betters
* Bed of Roses
(all of the above are early 30s and are sometimes a little stiff/static, but all are worth seeing)

Later movies:
* After Office Hours
* Topper Takes a Trip
* Merrily We Live (good, not great)
* Service De Luxe (good, not great)
* Two Faced Woman (Garbo's last movie; unintentionally campy -- rom-com was not her forte, with the exception of Ninotchka -- but worth seeing)
* The Unsuspected (suspenseful movie, but her char. is often breezy)
* Smart Woman
* Madame X

I noticed she had a beautiful singing voice in the film. Did she ever release any material or sing in any other films?
