Insurance Adjuster?

Franchot Tone's cover story that he is an insurance adjuster made me giggle. First, some insurance adjusters I've known had buzz kill/cut throat personalities we associate with assassins. Second, his real job title is weaponized actuary, because he "adjusts" the life spans for certain individuals. But seriously, this is one of several movies that dealt with the devastating social aftermath of WWI. For example, Clyde, of Bonnie and Clyde fame, was trained to use a Browning automatic rifle, and he used it very effectively during their crime spree until he was killed by one.

Clyde Barrow was never in the US military, neither was his older brother Buck. Both were too young to be in WWI. Using a BAR was about the only thing they had in common with US troops in the war, but you can be quite sure they weren't "trained" by the government to shoot them.
