Question about the ending (SPOILERS)

Did Mrs. Morrison know that Stella was going to be out the window? I think she did. It wouldn't surprise me if she invited Stella but Stella refused to go for fear of embarrassing her daughter. So she kept the window open so Stella could SEE her daughter get married if she wanted to.

I think you're right!

I definitely think that Helen assumed that Stella would be there, esp. after her comment to her husband about who wrote those "pitiful lines". As a mother herself, she had an intuition that Laurel's mother would see the wedding. Such a heart-breaking scene....

I noticed that the butler at first appeared startled and surprised that Mrs. Morrison asked him to open the front drapes, despite the rainy evening visible outside. Surprised, because the rain in the background would be a downer for all the assembled guests and bride and groom at - what should be - a joyous wedding ceremony for everyone?

Yes, I think the former Mrs. Morrison knew that Stella would watch from outside the home.

Maybe not knowing, but hoping it - which says even more about her :)
