One Of The Greatest

I've heard of this movie all my life (it was made 37, I was born Nov. 46). Never seen it or any sequels (Garland,Streisand, etc.). Wow! What a flick! sO Hollywood!! If you've got a crush on Tinseltown this one's for you. I've always felt Hollywood (and Vegas) are soulless, Godless towns but what would our lives be like without them?!? I like Bedford Falls Ha Ha. Guess people have to do what they're called to do. This is a magneficant film!!!

movie critics seem to prefer the 1954 version, and looking around this board seem most people, i was so surprised as this started that it was in colour, similar experience have been mentioned earlier on this board, somehow i always had the idea the 1940's "phantom of the opera" was the first colour flick, but of course there is the 1939 "gone with the wind" as well, this did not have very bright colour, and one of the earliest shots was of the redhead which made me certain, the dialogue from the kid and some of the others in the room at the opening shot seemed very modern for a 1937 flick. the translated title i got of this made me miss that this was yet another (well the first perhaps) version of "a star is born", i think there is less than a decade between the main stars in this, even though one role is suppose to be a has been and one an up coming. when the letters start to get plastered on the screen a while into the running time you get the impression for a second the movie is about to end, unless you know how short a while it has been running, and i think it is during that moment you really see the great quality of colour and in no way would you think this was shot in 1937, though the score pretty much settles that, and the horribly aged comedy bits.

barking at your light you let me in,
youd been gone so long i humped but you made me sit,
i dont need a leash,
cant explain what it is,
turned a yes maam dog out of me,
anything i fetch rubs my belly,
in your home fill bowl with treats.
