Did Norman commit suicide?

I was left with the impression that he did. Any thoughts?

Sadly he did dicronite he went out for a swim that day and drowned . My theory on this was that he was a good swimmer but he purposely swam out too far so he would drowned ( and it would look like an undertow accident ? ) . IMPO I so wished he hadn't done it because he still had alot to live for - he had Vicki ( Ester ) for one and I believe all the other turmoil in his life could have been worked out . I believe he just needed more time to get his personal life situated . Which would mean to get away from the HOLLYWOOD Scene altogether and start his life anew ( or more like move away to a town or city in California not as near to HOLLYWOOD and have an early retirement from his acting career to pursue other interests ) . It would be a tough situation I realize with Vicki's career just getting started and all but it would be some sort of a solution for both of them to be happy and still be together too ( even though he wasn't to be a actor anymore ) . Of course if this movie had unfolded that way who knows what the ending would have been like . It most likely wouldn't have been the tragic tale that it was but it's still an excellent film just the same . It still brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it . Thanks dicronite for your subject post .

Yes, he did. In his warped way of thinking he thought he had no other choice. To keep her from sacrificing her career to take care of him (as she planned to do) he would make the ultimate sacrifice for her. The man didn't make good decisions when things were going well in his life; it's not surprising he'd make such a poor decision when he was at his lowest point.
