Constance Collier superb in this movie.

I realize that Constance Collier isn't the first person anyone thinks of when pondering this movie. But, her performance in "Stage Door" is really superb. Just wanted to say. :)

I watched this movie for the first time last night and I agree with your assessment of Ms Collier's performance. It's hard to pick one standout performance from this film. The actresses are all superb. Hard to find fault with any of them. I always wondered where the "Calla lilies" line came from. Now I know.

I always liked the pathos of Constance Collier's line, "Could you see an older woman in the part?"

That line where Collier tries to get Hepburn's part after Hepburn's character proves to be an incompetent unprofessional pain is one of the best lines of the movie. Shows that Collier's character is still a competitive actress who is willing to stab her protogee in the back to get a part.

Agreed. Collier is a delight in this. Many of her lines remain very memorable for me.

"I FAIL to see what onions have to do with what we're talking about"

reply

I agree, especially in the scene where she convinces Hepburn to go on stage.
