Kaye's past

...so was the play "Enchanted April" supposed to be written about Kaye's life? She made a comment about how she would "never go back to him" and she breaks down later to Terry and says "it isn't a play, it happened to someone I know." It seemed like one of those situations when you go to someone for help and are too embarassed to ask a for personal advice and say "your friend" needs advice. Anyone know?

Enchanted April isn't supposed to be written about Kaye but is so similar to her life that she relates to it. That's why she is convinced she is the best actress for the role.

We are left with a few clues as to events transpiring in Kaye's backstory, mostly told by Kaye herself.

On the upstairs staircase, she tells Jean (Ginger) that there is only one someone left in her life, whom she'll never go back to. This could indicate some form of abuse by a guardian or an ex.

On opening night, she tells Terry (Katharine) that Jeanette ("Enchanged April" character) would hold her calla lilies across her arms, as an homage to the child which she never could have. This could indicate that Kaye somehow lost a baby and may never be able to have another.

In Tony Powell's outer office, we learn that even though Kaye Hamilton became a major Broadway sensation one season earlier, she is not all but forgotten, and she somehow lost all of her finances and benefits since achieving last year's stardom because we learn back in the Footlights' Club that she owes plenty on her tab for room and board even though she hasn't been taking meals, thus accounting for her unfortunate malnutrition.

I thought that maybe she was having an affair with the playwright at some point. When Terry asks her, after she gives direction on the calla lily speech, "do you think that was what the writer intended?" (something like that), she says "I know it was". The way she says it, with averted eyes, suggested inside knowledge of the writer's thoughts.
