Blond Bogart

Is there any rationale for Bogart being blond when he first enters the yard? He's dark haired before and after. Tried to submit as a goof, but I didn't have enough experience, and was not allowed. This one is pretty clear cut. Was he blond for concurrent work on another film? Appears they tried to cover it up as much as they could with the baseball style cap.

I know it's been over a year since you asked your question about why Bogart was suddenly blond in prison. I don't think it is a goof. I think it is supposed to represent a crew cut. Not a terribly good representation, because you can still see Bogey's hair in the back. But perhaps they didn't want to give Bogey a real crew cut for these scenes and then wait for his hair to grow back later, so they probably trimmed the sides a bit, dyed it a light color and slapped a prison hat on his head hoping nobody would notice. Just a guess. Hope this helps.

It reminded me of his 'do' in High Sierra.

At first I thought it was supposed to be red hair (his name's "Red" in the movie after all). Then I forgot about it. Maybe it had something to do with that.

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

He's not blonde. It's supposed to represent a crew cut. All prisoners back then were given a crew cut when they first arrived. I'm sure Bogey didn't want to actually cut his hair, so that was the best they could do.
