shareWell, the movie never got very deep into the relationships, keeping things light enough for its comedic needs. The scenes with Raymond and his mother were perhaps exaggerated a bit for comedic effect - the expository point was to show that he had a loving mother, as otherwise Raymond's entire family would've hated him, which would've been a bit too harsh for the movie's tone.
