Arletty in blackface!

I wonder how viewers of today would react to Arletty's portrayal of the Queen of Abyssinia. The famous cinematic icon is smeared in a dark substance, sports a crazy bee hive style hairdo complete with feathers and is clothed in a bikini like outfit which no decent Abyssinian woman would ever consider wearing. The Abyssinians, Ethiopians today, are Christian and the ladies dress modestly. Nor do they caress huge snakes not do are they perverse sex fiends eager to spend a wild night of orgy with a complete stranger. The men do not go about in hula skirts. Abyssinians speak a language that sounds nothing like the "ugga bugga" silly talk. If they wanted a dark lady to play the Abyssinian queen, why not cast Josephine Baker in the role, minus all the silliness. Frankly, it was embarrassing to watch. The rest of the film was quite delightful.
