And the Nominees Are Podcast

So my friends and I have started a podcast entitled And the Nominees Are where we plan to review every single Best Picture nominee. It's a daunting and challenging task as we've already found a few movies that are impossible to find. However we did review this one in our seventeenth episode. You can take a listen on iTunes. You can find us at www.atnapodcast.com.

We'd love to start a discussion about this movie. Man, we didn't like this movie. We tolerated Three Smart Girls but this one was way more flimsy.

I did listen just now. Very interesting, but it sounded to me like you both had it in for Durbin and the movie before you saw it. For instance, you kept harping on how the plot could have been reduced to a couple of lines if people had only listened to each other. The same is true of TOP HAT, and just about all the Astaire/Rogers films, but this "flaw" somehow escaped your collective critical notice in the films you liked.

Also, I thought from your reviews of this and other films you had little or no understanding of the Great Depression, the class conflicts facing the "haves" vs. the "have nots" etc., why these would appeal to audiences at the time (and since), etc., etc.

Looks as if you stopped after 1937, at least as far as imdb.com is concerned...
