Black & White Version?

I swear I've seen this movie several times in black and white (on TV, of course) years before I ever knew it was originally filmed in Technicolor. Am I crazy?? Scratch that. Am I remembering incorrectly? I searched online, but found only details about the color specs...
Any info much appreciated.

The color is pretty awful in the available versions, possibly because the film is in the public domain and therefore a less financially rewarding subject for restoration. I guess that makes it more likely to be broadcast on TV, or even released by a distributor, in black and white...?
