'Barton Fink' and the box

Could the Coen brothers have been thinking of this when developing the "what's in the box" bits in Barton Fink? Has anyone commented on this before?

Also there's that head in the box in Se7en.

Just saw this for the first time on TCM, loved it, and thought the same thing: the Coens must have had it in their memory bank arsenal when they conceived Barton Fink. They are film buffs, after all.

I thought about the head in the box from "Seven" as well.

And I thought about the head in a box from Les vampires (1915) (where you actually see the head!)
