who was that trumpet player?

about halfway through the film, the scene opens at the club with the band playing, and the camera does a close-up of the trumpet player.

can anyone help me find out who that trumpet player was? we are desperate to know his name because we are sure there's a family connection to us. he is the spitting image of someone who has been looking for his father for many years.

we would appreciate any assistance in pointing us in the right direction.

i've done some digging and we believe the trumpet player is roy eldridge. he had a brother, joe, who played the saxophone.

if anyone has any info on either roy or joe being in los angeles in march 1952 please write. thank you.

A quick google indicates that Joe Eldridge passed away in early March 1952, probably in NYC. I have no idea, but I imagine it is likely Roy would have attended his funeral. There seems to be nothing in his discography for that period. Roy Eldridge is one of the greatest trumpeters in the history of jazz, and there are several biographies of him you could consult to more information on his whereabouts in that period.

OK I have just watched the film and looked carefully at the trumpet player who appears just a little shy of the hour mark. I believe it is NOT Roy Eldridge. This is Roy:
