A Cynical VIew.

OK, this movie came out in 1937. It's not discussed and I am the very firts poster onthis board. So forgive me for beigntoo brief but...

This film is absurd, as is the short its based on. If he's foudn guilty of Treasoin, its way easier and mor elogical and pragmatic to just kill him, and its also the Legally Proscribed punishment for the Time.

It also has a ridiculosu premise that he grew wisr at sea realising how he should have Loved America.

Er, had he been allowed to, say, move to Canada, or to some European Nation, woudl he have come to this ocnclusion? Or was it just because he was isolated for so long?

And finally, he says the Officials and Governemnt, and veen the Popel, are all bacjed by the COuntry herself. It may soudn liek a nice sentiment but COuntrues are largley legal Fictions. If the peopel didnt exist, the Nation woudlnt either, and with no Governemnt to set Laws, it snot defined.

Oh, in adition, not tellign him of the Civil War...yeah, that unermines it too as yoru pretendign all is well.

Really I never liked this story.
