Wonderfully touching with superlative performances from the two leads and the ensemble cast. Possibly, the first genuine tearjerker in the history of film.

Yeah, this is an utterly awesome movie, unbelieveable I hadn´t known it ! What a cast and altough I am pretty firm in movie history, this always escaped me (probabaly never dubbed and shown in Austrian or German TV I guess).

Possibly, the first genuine tearjerker in the history of film.

I think D.W. Griffith and Charlie Chaplin would argue with this (or at least those well versed in their films!).
