Did anyone else cry at the end?

I'm a guy and every time I see this I'm crying like a girl by the end :) George was SO good in that trial sequence. It's melodramatic to a ridiculous extreme but George pulls it off. Every time she looked at her son you can see the pain and agony in her face.

Yep. Cried like a baby. I treated myself to both earlier talkie versions today - Ruth Chatterton and Gladys George. Cried at both of them! Both actresses are amazing. Both dove deep. Raw and real. Kudos big time to them.

I have the one with Chatterton but have yet to see it. Did you ever see the one with Lana Turner? I was dry-eyed at that. She was a wonderful actress but I didn't buy her at all in that role.

reply

Yup.

Gladys George is one of the most underrated actresses of that era.
