Editing the first meeting with the High Lama?

I've just seen LH for the first time -- the 134 version including stills for some lost scenes or parts of scenes. Reading about the changes done to the original version over time, I'm very curious about how the first meeting between Conway and the High Lama was edited in the shorter version. Does anyone know? I understand that the High Lama's pacifist message was unwelcome in the middle of WWII, but how exactly did they remove that message and still retain that scene? Or did the cut the whole scene? It seems like it's a crucial scene that would be hard to remove without making the movie really confusing.
