Wasn't there a Disney version in the early 1960s?

Does anyone remember a live-action version of this story from the early/mid 1960s? I'm fairly sure I watched it on Disney's Wonderful World of Color but my age was but a single digit so the memory may be flawed. It was the first movie that ever made me cry and it taught me the emotional power a movie can evoke.

Hi,
I just saw your post and I have been looking for this version for years! I thought maybe it was a hallmark special but Disney is a good bet. Did you ever hear from anyone else who saw it?
Thanks!
Diana

dbutler, the only reply has been yours. I'm relieved to know that someone else even remembers it.
