Stupid and Tiresome!

With all those big names, something went very much amiss in this...thing. Here we have butlers, footmen, a country estate, jewel thieves, pearl necklaces, bluebloods, Dutchesses, Lords, and the ever popular Incrimating Letters. Usually I just eat this stuff up, but it all comes across as boring and annoying - the upper classes are SO comical! Joan Crawford is SO beautiful! Blah blah blah. Not even good escapism. Skip it!

I just saw this film for the first time and agree considering the cast, this should have been a better film but I don't think it's as bad as this reviewer makes it out to be. At times the dialog is witty, urbane and engaging enough to hold your interest until it becomes a morality play before the eventual "boy gets girl" happy ending happens. Still, I enjoyed it, mostly because of the cast and would probably watch it again.

This.

Not a great film and not a bad film.

Worth a single viewing at least.

It was weird how it started off making me laugh my ass off, like when the one guy was caught in a compromising position with Crawford's character in his ship cabin and him weakly trying to explain it to the other guys. I was laughing non-stop there for a while. Then it kind of turned into another typical Crawford drama which did get annoying. It was the first time I questioned whether or not I should watch another Crawford film again. Mildred Pierce is one of my all time favorites, but I may need a break from seeing her characters juggle mulitiple men.

Cheese fries...next time.
