John Clements

I must agree with chrisart7's review that John Clements absolutely steals the scenes he is in. Not easy with that cast!

Yes, sir, I'm going to do nothing like she's never been done before!

Clements captured and broke my heart. Marvelous work!

Sir John Clements starred in the 1938 soaper "South Riding" opposite Ralph Richardson, and was the lead in "The Four Feathers" in 1939, again with Richardson, as well as June Duprez, C. Aubrey Smith, Allan Jeayes (who played a White Russian general in "Knight Without Armour"), Hay Petrie (the station master in "Knight Without Armour"), and many others. Clements had a similar speaking voice and manner to Sir Alec Guinness. Curious thing to know that Clements' film career never really took off after such a promising start, but he did fare quite well in British theatre where he was highly respected.

It seems the Second World War did indeed divert the careers of many (June Duprez, for instance) associated with London Films, including producer Alexander Korda whose output was much more sporadic after the 1930s.

Absolute agreement! Clements was marvelous, but give the screenwriters some credit for writing him a plum part. Too bad he didn't make more movies -- one would think he would have become another Tyrone Power or Robert Taylor after THE FOUR FEATHERS -- but thankful I am that he filmed what he did.
