For you fire buffs out there, there is some great footage of steamers, horse drawn fire apparatus, and hand pump trucks in action!
This is rare stuff.
Also, water troughs instead of hydrants.
We've come a long way.
That's why I liked watching this movie, seeing all the old fire trucks and pumps in action. Seeing them stationary in a museum all shined up doesn't really give one any idea of how they functioned under stress. I didn't even know what they had before fire plugs and hydrants! I found it immensely interesting that they pulled the boards off a hole in the ground and pumped it manually from there. I guess it would be some years before firetrucks actually brought water to the fire in a tank!
