MY sister loved Shirley Temple. When she was about 19 or 20 years old she legally changed her name to Heidi.

I've always wondered about the name Heidi. Makes perfect sense to be a nick-name for Adelheid.
I had a Heidi in my Sunday school class.
My mom named her twin daughters Heidi and Klara! I know other people by those names but my sisters are the only cases I know of both names occurring in one family. None of the Heidis I know were named Adelheid! If I recall correctly, back in the day when personalized bike license plates were the thing, Heidi definitely had one and I think Klara did as well. My mom has read the book about 80 times, I read it once, my sisters never have! (Despite Mom buying them matching copies and spending hours pasted printed "Ks" to correct all the "Claras.") Heidi's daughter read a full length version at age ten!

I don't think I've ever personally known anyone named Heidi.I have a niece named Heidi and it's not a nickname. That is also true of Heidi Klum. I was surprised at the latter since she is German.
