This is quite a wonderful film. Flora Robson is magnificent as the queen. If Elizabeth I wasn't like this, she should have been.

There is quite a bit of hating here, which I don't get. It's a fine flick, and everyone is good. Olivier is criticized because he isn't Errol Flynn. Well, Flynn's characterizations border on caricature sometimes, and we are saved from that.

I enjoyed this film and I love watching Errol Flynn. I like seeing a little variety and don't think any single actor needs to be in every film; especially of a certain genre. I'm sure that would be just as boring for them as it would be for me. Still, a lot of audiences and studios seem to like typecasting their stars. If someone was good in one genre, they tend to keep getting the same kinds of roles. That's exactly what's being done here.

Flynn does have a tongue-in-cheek way of doing certain roles. I like that about him but I've heard he wasn't always happy in those roles. He wanted to stretch and do a variety of parts but wasn't given the chance. The thinking behind these kinds of comments is the reason why he and other actors we love didn't have as full a career as they would have liked.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
