Didn't like Olivier in this film

I absolutely loved Olivier in "Wuthering Heights" and "Rebecca", thought his acting was perfect in both those films. But I did not like him in this film at all. I don't know if it was his character, or just bad acting, but if this was the first time I'd seen Olivier in a film, I would not be impressed AT ALL! His Michael seemed like a wimpy, even a bit effeminate, teenage kid - but maybe that's what the director wanted him to portray.

I couldn't agree with you more ... I didn't like him in this film at all. He was wimpy and did act somewhat effeminate. I just watched it and Susan, you hit the nail on the head! This type of roll was not at all suited for him and again you are right ... his acting seemed just plain old awful. When I think of how fantastic the the GREAT Errol Flynn was in these type of parts it makes Olivier seem even worse!

Have you two matured yet?

Are you sufficiently mature to realise your peevishness? Larry's performance is perfectly adequate.

You could see his armor recoiling.
