Funny Line...

Mr Matthews (Robert Montgomery) on Marion Davies' character in the film:
"She'll make someone a great wife. Probably a blind man."
Love this film because Marion Davies "uglies" herself up to get a man by becoming his dowdy secretary. But she is still pretty, anyway. This was her last film.

I agree Emma,,,great film for Robert and Marion.

But I don't think she "uglied" herself up to get a man, but rather to get a job (it seems as an attractive blonde she couldn't get her lecherous bosses to stop harassing her!).

Getting the man was a bonus! LoL

I enjoyed the movie; it was a pretty good story and, as usual, I loved Robert Montgomery but I thought it would have been a better movie if someone other than Marion Davies had been cast in the lead female role.

I've never been a big fan of hers though I have seen her in a few movies I thought were okay or even pretty good. In this I thought she was awful. Her acting was stilted and she lacked chemistry with Montgomery. It was hard to imagine him falling for her so I couldn't buy their romance. I also felt she lacked the beauty the role required; or maybe she was just too old for the part.

I'm not usually one to harp on actors playing much older or younger than they actually are; they are actors after all. However, when their age or their looks don't seem to fit the character it can be very distracting.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

I've only seen clips, but judging by them, I think she was a talented comedian. Which surprised me, as I'd always heard she was terrible. I also think she was beautiful in this, and in general and both she and Montgomery look to be the same age or close enough so it never occurred to me she was too old for the part, or he too young. In truth they were only 7 years apart, which isn't that much.
