Donald Duck swears in Don Donald 1937

To all the Donald Duck fans out there.

As you know I have grownup in the 1980s and 1990s hearing people swear around me and I have occasionally heard swearing in cartoon movies and TV shows from time to time which used to be very shocking to me but have since calmed down.

I was watching a Donald Duck cartoon called "Don Donald" and Donald Duck called his Donkey a "Jackass" I was surprised that he would use some mild PG swear words for a cartoon short.

I'm confused, Did the word "Jackass" get past the Hays code censorship or was that considered a normal word in the 1930s? I know the 1940 Disney cartoon movie "Pinocchio" also used the word "Jackass". and also in the other Donald Duck cartoon "The Village Smithy" 1942 also used that word. Let me know what you think.

"Jackass" referring to a male donkey - not a bad word
referring to a human (like you) - innapropiate
