1977 TV versision .. Karl Malden .. Thumbs Up?

I posted this on the other board.. there was a 1977 TV version with Karl Malden ...

The 'User Comments' section gave this version a THUMBS UP and goes on to say that ABC no longer has a copy. Is that possible? Director .... Writer ... Actors ... No one has a copy ? How many would have been made ? Are there other gems of the not too distant past which are lost forever?

I wish I had a copy. I recall enjoying it a lot though, of course, I love the original. I was especially drawn to it for two reasons: Ricardo Montalban and Jonathan Kahn, as I had seen "The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea" the previous year.

I'm surprised it hasn't been aired ever again. So many made-for-TV movies I remember never show up again.

I found only this clip:

I would have had a VCR by then. I wonder if I have it on tape somewhere. I don't recall, and my collection is so overwhelming. What a surprise it would be to find it. But, I really do not recall taping it.

Some films do seem to drop out of sight. Some surface on YouTube, courtesy of smoeone taping it. If I knew how to transfer, I would try it with some rare ones I have. However, I'm not sure how they deal with copyrights.

When I checked YouTube, I hoped to find it. I think they do have the Nineties one.

Supposedly the Disney film "Child of Glass," also a TV-movie from around the same time, is lost. I saw both back in the day and considered them great. The TV-movie of "Captains Courageous" is what got me to read the book, and I also read "The Ghost Belonged to Me" on which "Child of Glass" was based.
