I just watched this with my parents...

... and apparently they have no romance in their souls. Where did I come from? They both found "Camille" "sappy and predictable", and "an okay movie."

I find it funny that I was born in the 1980's and they were born in the 1940's, and I feel a much closer connection to classic cinema than they do. Now, I'm a huge Garbo fan so I am biased here, but I can't imagine anyone not being moved by this film, especially the death scene.

Are there people out here (besides my parents, sigh) who actually don't like "Camille"?

I'm a movie lover who was born in the 1950's. My mom was born in 1930 and she can't stand period films for the most part. I am particularly fond of period dramas.

This is an excellent film. The costumes are gorgeous, the sets are lovely and the performances are tops.

Greta Garbo was sublime in this. Many critics feel this is one of the best performances by an actress in that particular time period. I would say it's one of the best performances by an actress in any decade. For someone who began in silent films, I find Garbo to be so natural and modern in her performances.

As far as the story being predictable, well, someone once said that there are actually only a handful of stories that exist, and all movies and novels are variations of these same basic stories.

Taylor and Garbo also have terrific chemistry in this.
