Appallingly bad

The film drags as though all participants were trying to fill the allotted time so they could be somewhere else. Every scene is dragged out - editor! Pleeease! cut already! - and many are plain unnecessary. The servants' supposedly witty banter is just so much filler. The leads are wooden. Every line falls flat. The camerawork painfully static and unimaginative. The story is weak and any surprises are nullified by the crawlingly slow pace. By far the worst Dietrich film I've seen. Oh well, at least I'll never be curious to see it again.

This is the first time I've ever been moved to pan a film on its board like this. I just thought someone should say this stuff here so as not to leave the voices of wild praise unchallenged, allowing them to lure others to fork out for this rubbish.

You have been warned!

Maybe you're right, Stumpy. You're a treasure. I don't know what I'd do without you - X
