Young Jimmy Stewart!

I was so surprised to see him in this film! He's so young that I almost couldn't recognize him as I'm used to see him. Even his voice isn't quite as distinctive at certain times! I thought that Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was his oldest film but this came out three years sooner!

Yeah, he was almost a baby in this film. I believe it was one of his very first roles of any significance. He was still very good in the film though.

Jimmy Stewart's first major role was in the "Murder Man" where he played a reporter. His features and voice don't appear to have changed much to me even as he got older.

Yup, Jimmy was 28 in this film and could look much younger if needed. This is one of the underplayed skills James Stewart displayed in films like, It's A Wonderful Life. He could easily portray a wide age range. One of few others that comes quickly to mind I've seen do this in a movie albeit for less time was Ginger Rogers in Kitty Foyle.

An aside, the actor John Francis Daley who plays Dr. Lance Sweets on the TV Series Bones would be a good candidate to play James Stewart with his youthful lanky frame, mannerisms and way of speech.

Jimmy Stewart had been in 21 films before he made 'Mr Smith Goes to Washington'.
