Life and mortality in the country by the river (slight spoilers)

This short film capitalises on an afternoon's passion that leaves an indelible on the man and woman. The passion is borne in the country by a river. Long after the afternoon both remain in the grip of its memory when they meet a good while later. In the background to the humans is the beauteous and fertile countryside and its small, living beings. Humans have many years on this earth if they are lucky and that brings a long time to reminisce and mourn. The caterpillar that becomes the butterfly and the nightingale have considerably less. When Henri looks for the nightingale at the end, he is absent for he is died. Then there is the pike. A lurking, voracious predator almost impossible to catch. Thus, life teems in the shadow of death whilst love dies but it leaves its trace and there is the hope and the misery of the film.

A bird sings and the mountain's silence deepens.
