Shame about Atlantis...

Everyone died. The white robes were completely wiped out by Unga Khan's men and the black robes were wiped out by the US Navy. The continent itself was also destroyed when the water flooded in, presumably drowning all of the wildlife as well. It's something though. In one episode, Sharad is saying that the fate of Atlantis rests on the shoulders of Crash and, in the next, they're completely wiped out. So much for Poseidon's protection, eh? They looked to be doomed anyway. It didn't look like there were any women left and so there was no way to reproduce. Really though, how do they leave out such a detail as the female population?

How ironic that you talked about this only 5 days ago!

I've just watched it and you are exactly right, Crash and his intrepid band of followers were able to save no one but themselves...

Reminded me of the Doctor Who episode Horror of Fang Rock! Everybody dies!

The same thing happens in the earlier serial 'The Phantom Empire'. In the final episode the underground civilization (and all it's inhabitants) gets completely destroyed, while the surface-dwelling heroes escape unharmed.

I never did like the plot device, so often used in movies and serials, where the "lost" continent or island, which had previously existed for thousands of years (e.g. Atlantis) or millions of years (any place that had dinosaurs) was destroyed in the final minutes of the movie or the last chapter of the serial. The only one I can think of right now that did not succumb to this pattern was the "Superman" movie about the "mole men." Instead of destroying their underground civilization, only the tunnel (oil well) to it was blown up.

tjacobs1945, check your private messages. I want you to see something.

reply

Yea, I hate it when they destroy the island, underground society, etc.

reply

Well, they have to destroy it or it would be in danger of spawning a dreaded film franchise!

reply

Eh, it wouldn't be that bad to have a franchise. The Flash Gordon trilogy was pretty fun. And, even if they did have to get rid of Atlantis, it's still a shame to kill all of the Atlantians.

WOw...
I didn't care that much about the Atlantians OR this serial. El-Lame-o!
