Why did Martha kiss Rosalie???

I don't know but wasn't that kiss.....ummmmmmm.......pretty gay???? Anyways the slap was so AWESOME!!! Damn, Margaret Hamilton made me cringe!! She gave Mary a ghetto slap!!

It's all about the corned beef sandwiches and pineapple juice

Yes, and the other thing I love about 'the slap' is that you can tell it is only the first of many that little Mary can look forward to. Any time she steps out of line, Agatha will be ready with that itchy slappin' hand to bring her down a peg or two. When I saw this in the theater, everyone cheered and applauded that slap!

As far as the kiss being gay...I don't know. It's always been acceptable social practice in this country for women to kiss one another without fear of being misunderstood, and I think this was just a token of gratitude from Martha to Rosalie for finally telling the truth. Plus, there was absolutely no indication whatsoever that Martha might be lesbian, so I think it was all pretty innocent.

I didn't take it as gay. I've seen other older movies from that period where women would kiss each other that way..i just think it was common for women to do that. like sometimes women hold each others hands today sometimes

It was very common. There was also something called a romantic friendship where you were very caring for each other, wrote letters, exchanged gifts, even slept in the same bed, but platonically only. Men did this too! (Of course, many gays and Lesbians probably got under the radar letting everybody think they were just friends in this way.)

Well, the city's being built and I'm winning this game. So don't interrupt us with trifles.

I loved the spank that the Doctor administered to Mary before he left. Couldn't have gotten away with that these days, tho there are certainly many kids who would benefit from a spanking, now and then. LOL!
