Irene Dunne once said ...

"I know a lot of friends of mine like it better than almost anything I ever made," she said. "Because they say, now that's the real you."

reply

Did they mean the real her before or after she went "wild"?

reply

Irene Dunne was never wild. She was a sensitive, intellectual conservative. Much closer to Theodora pre-liberation, but her zest for life is something that also shone through in the second half of the film through the evident joy of performance.

If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive.

That's very true. Irene becomes a good role model for talent, excellence, morality and dignity. But she also has that fun side, which shows through in "Theodora Goes Wild," a film which seems rather risque of her attention on the surface, but she really makes it one great Irene Dunne movie.

Irene has been known to breathe a great deal of life into her Dramas, Comedies and Musicals, because she gives them a great deal of thought and attention, as she studies for her roles, which have become so Classic that all too many have been remade, which is a shame because Irene does them best of all, and very few are worthy to step into her shadows with the possible exception of Deborah Kerr.

Irene Dunne is just that good, that expert at her field.

reply

Funnily enough, I think that it was Deborah Kerr who was in all of her remakes! Perhaps she is seen as the 1950s equivalent of Irene Dunne? It certainly seems that way.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!
