the coat that theador wore.

THEADOA WORE A COAT THAT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS MADE FROM HUMAN HAIR. DOES ANYONE HAVE INFO. ABOUT THIS?

reply

I think that might have been monkey fur.
The only reason I know that is from the movie,
"Singing in the Rain" and the "Beautiful Girl" number.
They have a fashion show and the fella talks about
the "trim is monkey fur" and it looked very much the same.

I can't be totally sure, but in a Jeanette MacDonald/Nelson Eddy movie I once saw, Jeanette wore something with similarly long fur and I was told it was orangatan fur. I just watched this film last night for the 2nd time (saw it for the first time long ago and so most of it I had forgotten, including this coat) and when I saw this coat last night, I immediately thought "monkey fur". I thought the coat was very ugly and weird. Maybe there were some other animals with long fur to make these sorts of garments; I'll have to do some research on that.

The muff which Jeanette carried in SWEETHEARTS was designed by MGM costume designer Adrian and was made out of monkey fur. I think the coat that Irene Dunne wears in TGW was also made put of monkey fur.

Certainly was hideous, and extremely unflattering as a coat, whatever it was made from.

I thought it was gorgeous but also hideous and evil and wrong.

There's a lot that's hideous, evil and wrong about this movie, and we can start with the coat.

You will probably disagree. That's the nature of discussions -- they have two sides.

Just finished watching, and it is quite clear that the coat is covered outside with FEATHERS.
