This is my favorite of the Ginger/Fred movies. The plot isn't that good, but the songs and dancing were amazing! Especially "Never Gonna Dance", and the "pick yourself up dance". And I LOVE "the way you look tonight". To me this was their best!

What I recommend this film most for is Jerome Kern's songs. Strangely, I even like Astaire best for his blithe and affecting singing style and his natural comedic gifts. Maybe the dancing is so seemingly effortless that I take it for granted.

Unfortunately the plot, dialogue and editing just drag the film down to meaningless confection for me.

To me this is their best movie. The "Never Gonna Dance" is simply amazing! I can't believe that they did that more than 40 takes. Yeah maybe this movie is a little old fashion but I love it! I wish it was on DVD. I think this movie beats Top Hat by a landslide. I don't get it why people like that one more even though I think that one has better music.

The movie is available on DVD from Editions Montparnasse in France under the name 'Sur les ailes de la danse' (amazon.fr). It's region 2 and will require a format-free and region-free DVD player to play. The French sub-titles are optional.

This is such a cool film. I keep meaning to see Top Hat but have hardly any time. This film is so fantastic, my favourite dance scene was when Ginger was 'teaching' Fred how to play, then when she is about to be fired, he grabs her hand and starts to dance. if onle true life were like that!

Swing Time is better than most musicals from its era but it's not in the same league than classics like The Wizard of Oz or Singin' in the Rain.
