Good, I'm not the only one.

Anyone else amazed that the actors name is Tod Slaugher and he plays a character named Todd who slaughters people?

It's a stage name.

reply

Todd was a stage name (his birth name was Norman) but his surname really was Slaughter.

Tod playing Todd?
The "name" thing is a minor coincidence, nothing more.

If you check out Slaughter's body of work on film (oh, wouldn't it have been grand to see him on stage?), he played murderous fiends in every role, in every one of his films. He was a natural when casting this version of "Sweeney Todd."

All of his films (that I am aware of) are in the public domain, and can be purchased for a pittance from such outlets as oldies.com (home of Alpha DVDs), and on VHS & DVD from Sinister Cinema, Nostalgia Family Video, and just about every other public domain vendor out there. (oldies.com will be the least expensive source, however, for the economy minded).

Slaughter's 'trademark' evil laugh, during every murder he commits, is in every one of his screen roles, yet the performances never seem redundant, nor tiresome.

....Quite the contrary, he is a delight to see in every one of his films.
