Dancers

The women dancers were incredibly flexible. I've never seen any dancers do that where they seem to pull their legs behind their backs in the nightclub number.

I'm watching this movie right now lol . It was actually a really cool optical illusion jtyroler . There were two sets of girls doing that effect at the same time . It's with one girl above another girl sitting at the others waist . One girl showing her torso only and the other girl only showing her legs . So it would appear that it was only one very flexible girl . This bit of unique body art was also used in several other older musical films too . Unfortunately for the moment I can't recall any other movie titles - sorry ( of course if you check out YouTube there are alot of clips of people who are really flexible like that and do this standing on their hands - whoa now that's flexible ! ) . Thanks jtyroler for your subject post .

Actually, this dance trick was used a few years ago, in Pet Shop Boys Fundamental tour, 2006. I believe it was during "West End Girls" and was aalso seen on Dancing With The Stars when the Boys performed that year on the show.

That's totally cool casperman2011 . I guess Pet Shop Boys appreciate the classics as well . That must have been quite an excellent show in 2006 would have loved to see them in concert but never got the chance to . Thanks so much casperman2011 for sharing this with us .

here's a link to the DWTS performance and the choreography - now wasn't the sequence in "Strike me Pink" very suggestive and "naughty"? Considering that it was done in 1936, after the production Code was being enforced, it was pretty risque. So glad I stumbled across it last night - a rare unfound gem of a musical!

" a rare unfound gem of a musical! " ----- Totally agree casperman2011 and we have TCM to thank for that especially since this channel never edits it's movies . One of my top favorite independent channels on cable TV today . May it never change . I don't know what the rating systems were for movies back in 1936 maybe this movie was for adult viewing only . Of course the dancers were wearing clothes too but it most likely was not appropriate for all viewers back in the day . As a wild guess perhaps people under a certain age were not allowed to view this movie at the cinemas ? A very modern movie for it's time indeed but a great one too . Excellent Pet Shop Boys YouTube clip from 2006 by the way . Thanks so much again casperman2011 for sharing this and for your replies .

Back in those days there was no rating sytem. That didn't start until the 60's, when movies were getting explicit with violence and nudity and the days of studio self-imposed censorship were long gone. So the MPAA came up with the rating sytem, to make sure the Production Code would not be revived. In the 30's and 40's, sex was dealt with in a very under-cover way and probably the adults got the messages while sitting in the theatres with kids around them. Also, sex could be slipped into musical numbers without raising the hackles of the censors. Busby Berkeley was certainly the master of that trick, but whoever did the choreography in "Strike me Pink", he or she was using Busby's playbook.
