Excellent Movie ! ( with some spoilers here )

I'm watching this for the very first time on the TCM ( Turner Classic Movies ) channel right now . My favorite scene so far is when Barbara ( aka - 'Ching-Ching' ) was on the stage dancing with the little life sized Fred Astaire doll attached to her feet ( great effect ! lol ) . I was also very impressed that actress Shirley Temple spoke Mandarin Chinese in this movie too . Did anyone else here have a favorite scene from this most charming movie ?

I saw this for the first time about a year ago. I loved the dancing with Astaire as well. I was surprised I had never seen that scene before. Not even in a montage, at least as I can recall. I recently read that Shirley actually had a mandarin language instructor on set and learn about 600 words. She was so talented!

I totally agree here SouthBandWatch Shirley Temple was quite a uniquely intelligent and proper young lady of her time ( it was most refreshing to see that in a young person like her ) . I also never saw that scene anywhere except in this movie too . Thanks SouthBandWatch for your reply and also for this very interesting trivia about Shirley too .

It was a really entertaining, cute movie. I loved Shirley testifying at the end and using the legal words that the judge told her to say. Also, the scene where Shirley is about to leave the boat when it looks like she will have to go to a home is very moving and tugs on the heartstrings. I also enjoyed the scene with the Astaire doll. There were a lot of great, funny scenes that I loved.

You are welcome. I bought the Shirley Temple Collection volume 2 dvd set last weekend which has 6 dvds in it. I watched Stowaway (9/10) today and yesterday I watched Baby Take a Bow (7/10), Bright Eyes (9/10), Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (8/10) and Young People (8/10). The other movie in it is Wee Willie Winkie which I haven't seen yet.

That's great now you can watch these classic treasures whenever you want and not have to wait for it to be on TV either ( as I always say worth every penny for years of enjoyment  ) .

My absolute top Shirley Temple movies of all are - " The Little Princess " from 1939 ( was a big fave since I was a child love the happy ending - have on DVD ) and " Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm " from 1938 ( love " The Old Straw Hat Song " sometimes sing that one to myself for days very catchy fun tune     ) .
Also " Heidi " from 1937 .

I have The Little Princess on dvd too but it has been a little while since I watched it. I should watch it again sometime soon. I don't think I have ever seen Heidi. The Old Straw Hat is a good song. There are a lot of fun, catchy tunes in Shirley's movies. I think my favourite is the Good Ship Lollipop song from Bright Eyes.

The movie " Heidi " is very similar in storyline to " The Little Princess " but I definitely recommend that one it's really a good one but has it's sad moments too ( still worth watching   ) .

Surprisingly haven't seen " Wee Willie Winkie " from 1937 either looking out for that one on the channel TCM ( Turner Classic Movies ) from time to time . 

Charming indeed! Ching-Ching gets lost in Shanghai and is befriended by American playboy Tommy Randall. She falls asleep in his car which winds up on a ship headed for America. Susan Parker, also on the ship, marries Randall to give Chin-Ching a family.
