Fun, funny, cute movie and interesting back story

It's kind of a stretch to think Cookie had never seen Smithy on the society pages or heard of him; given her interests and his wealth, but I suppose it's plausible. The movie wouldn't work if she had. Among other things, her gold-digging ways would have been less forgivable.

Still, I love this nutty little movie. It's a perfect romantic comedy. We know exactly where it's going but we don't mind going along for the ride. Like an amusement park ride - it's short; it doesn't require a huge investment; the payoff is immediate and worthwhile; and, when it's over, everyone’s smiling.

I was surprised to learn via TCM commentary, that the lead actors, Ann and Gene, did not care much for each other off screen. It doesn't show. That's due to really good acting; the maturity to not let it affect their work; or it just happens to work with this particular plot.

Though they seem older, they were both only in their twenties when this movie was made and, I believe, unattached. This was not their first pairing. If not a romance, I'd assume they'd, at least, have a close friendship.

In any case, they worked together often over the years. That must have been difficult. I'm looking forward to seeing how well they were able to pull it off or disguise their mutual dislike in those other projects.
