Great movie!

I watched this in my movie class and it is really good. There was better acting then now. I love the song. It's so sweet!

Agreed. To think they could have such stunning earthquake special-effects back then in the middle of the Depression is amazing. Such a wonderful film.

We are currently in production of doing a scene from san francisco as a short film, and my friend is going to play the girl. He said he'd do it if it gets him an acting part, and his voice is just as high pitched and shrieking as hers.

mfan0825- Your comment - "These people today are talentless" is pretty ignorant and shows you in a very bad and elitist light. I'm a massive fan of the golden age and I prefer it to many of today's movies, but you couldn't be any more simple in that statement AND insulting to people like-

Benicio Del Torro (Traffic)
Ed Harris (Pollack)
Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive)
Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves)
Tom Wilkenson (In the Bedroom & Michael Clayton)
Jack Nicholson (The Pledge, About Schmidt)
Steve Coogan (24 Hour Party People)
Cate Blanchett (Heaven & Iā€™m Not There)
Gary Oldman (Tip Toes, and well everything he does)
Bill Murray (Lost in Translation, Broken Flowers)
Gael Garcia Bernal (Bad Education)
Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda)
Robert Downey Jr (everything)
Tommy Lee Jones (The Three Burials of Marquedez Estrada)
Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain & Dark Knight)
Phillip Seymour Hoffman (most of his films like Capote and Doubt)
Carice van Houten- (Black Book)
Forest Whitaker- (Last King of Scotland)
Marion Cotillard- (La Vie en Rose)
Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men)
Daniel Day Lewis (Gangs of NY & There Will Be Blood)
Viggo Mortensen (Rings & Eastern Promises)
Christian Bale (Rescue Dawn)
Clooney (Michael Clayton)
Johnny Depp (everything)
Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler & Sin City)
Penelope Cruz (Volver & Vicky Christina Barcelona)
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Redbelt & Dirty Pretty Things)
Langella & Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon)
and finally Meryl Streep (EVERYTHING she does!)

Just to name a few. I'm missing out on many other countries. But really, don't make such blanket statements like that.

Yes its true that there are some great actors in every generation. But I think the first crop of "talking" actors, those born between 1890 and 1910 are the greatest generation! I really love the acting in the 1930's/1940's movies, even the "B" pictures and the character actors.
