Some people hate the ending, to actually see Blackie praying to God. Tsk tsk...
If it was made today, he would have pulled Mary under the rubble and had sex, and shown her "real" enlightenment which, of course, would help her to see how things really are.

Well, both endings seem absurd to me. Do you think San Franciscans really thanked God for saving their city after the fires went out 104 years ago – after the whole destruction thing?

I believe the real-life 1916 cleanup of the Barbary Coast due to that hypocrite Hearst to have been a change for the worst.A truly great movie-should have won Best Picture.Remaking it today-who could replace Gable?Could make a great musical.

I think if it were made today they'd probably put it on tv then do something dumb like they have with Under The Dome.....Take a single limited story and stretch it into several seasons. Although this story could get stretched during the rebuilding.
